Strengthening European capabilities

The initial purpose of this report was to examine the success of the ‘Arctic window of Copernicus’ site, which our project was initiating. This plan was for this platform to serve as a point-of-access to all the outputs from the Pilot Services as well as providing access to Arctic relevant observations, data, and products. However, the Copernicus services developed a more extensive portal called the Arctic Hub portal (https://www.arctic.hub.copernicus.eu/) as an independent effort. Following discussions with commission representatives and the responsible institute for the Copernicus Arctic Hub (Mercator Ocean International: MOI), it was decided that we should avoid duplication. Consequently, the Arctic PASSION’s Arctic Window of Copernicus would not be implemented.

Instead, Arctic PASSION was tasked with providing guidance and recommendations for the Copernicus Arctic Hub (Deliverable D2.8 ‘Arctic Window of Copernicus - The Arctic PASSION perspective). As a consequence, the current deliverable D8.3 has been appropriately modified, we will now concentrate on the visibility of the Arctic in global internet usage and how Copernicus and Arctic Passion services have raised internet awareness. Arctic issues visibility will be analysed by using Google trends statistics. The visibility of Copernicus and Arctic Passion services will be analysed using Similarweb internet traffic statistics and the ubersuggest service.

In conclusion the Arctic is of growing interest world wide and especially in regions connected to it. Copernicus service are having a solid internet following which is growing. Arctic Passion services are targeting small groups of end-users and with only a short presence on internet. It is too realy to say, how successful they would become.
