Description

This report documents how the Future Migration as Present Fact (FUMI) survey was carried out. It serves as background for interpreting the data correctly and understanding their strengths and limitations. Moreover, it aims to be a valuable resource  for other survey researchers.

The FUMI survey is a sample survey of young adults in three urban areas in West Africa: Serekunda (The Gambia), Tema (Ghana), and São Vicente (Cape Verde). It has a random sample of 1000 individuals in each location and was carried out through face-to-face interviews in English, Mandinka, Wolof, Twi and Kriol. Survey results are published in a separate report.

Future Migration as Present Fact (FUMI) is a research project about the lives and dreams of young adults in three West African cities. We examine thoughts and feelings about the prospect of migrating and make advances in theory and methodology. The project is funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant.
