Spatialized Ames, IA housing dataset

This dataset introduces spacially-explicit variables to the pre-existing Ames, Iowa housing dataset. There are 80 new variables in total. The first 44 new variables are minor enhancements to the prior version covering 2930 individual observations containing proportional land cover values that describe the land cover around each home, based on the Federal National Land Cover Data. There are 3 data lengths availible to each home: 300m, 600m and 1000m. The code repository is desgined in a way that enables not only recreation but also reapplication to other regions within the United States, it is hosted here: https://github.com/David-Barbour/Spatializing-Ames-Utilizing-NLCD-Data-Tutorial.git. The following year key determines the source NLCD coverage year for the data in the form NLCD Year -> Housing Year 1, Housing Year 2. 2006 -> 2006 & 2007, 2008 -> 2008 & 2009, and 2011 -> to 2010. Years were determined by the availibility of the legacy NLCD year via the FedData Package in R. Should the annual data released at the end of 2024 become accessible in a similar fashion this dataset can be updated for increased accuracy.

The current version adds additional metrics applied soley to the 1000m buffers, the year coverage key still applies. The 36 additional metrics inculde an aggregation index for each patch type, total patch counts, patch counts by land cover type, Shannon’s diversity index and evenness index, as well as Simpson’s diversity index and evenness index. File was reuploaded due to a minor error (Shrub/Scrub 300m no longer presenting NA values).
