EOSC Beyond D5.3 EOSC Platform Architecture and Network of EOSC Nodes
Authors/Creators
Description
The EOSC Beyond project has significantly advanced the technical architecture of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), evolving it into a decentralised federation of interoperable and autonomous Nodes. Building on the EOSC Platform Architecture, the project has defined core concepts such as Federating Capabilities and EOSC Node Architecture. The EOSC Technical Architecture defined by the project and adopted in the EOSC Federation Handbook enables collaboration across national, thematic, and institutional infrastructures, supporting distributed services and research assets.
Nowadays, the project is working on key innovations that include the EOSC Node Registry, allowing dynamic discovery and integration of Node capabilities; a federated catalogue model, enabling local and cross-federation resource discovery; and an Integration Suite and Execution Framework to orchestrate interoperable service deployment and workflows. These developments promote scalability, flexibility, and sustainability while reducing reliance on centralised structures. The work provides a blueprint for establishing a resilient and inclusive European Open Science environment, and sets the stage for further technical and community-driven evolution of the EOSC Federation.
