Methane Reimagined: Transforming a Fossil Fuel into a Global Green Energy Carrier
Creators
Description
Globally, more than 12,500 TWh of renewable energy are curtailed or lost annually due to grid bottlenecks and seasonal mismatches. The Tubular Seasonal Tank Module (TSTM) offers a novel solution to this massive energy waste by transforming surplus electricity into mechanical energy to compress methane, turning it into a seasonal “gas battery.” Unlike conventional hydrogen or battery storage, methane can act simultaneously as an energy carrier, a long-term storage medium, and a raw material. Once recovered, it can be converted into heat, electricity, or green hydrogen without CO₂ emissions or water consumption. TSTM modules leverage existing gas infrastructure and can be deployed globally, enabling a decentralized, flexible, and economically viable path toward deep decarbonization. This document provides a comprehensive scientific and strategic overview of TSTM technology and its transformative role in the global energy transition.
