  • 1. Associate Professor, Birgunj Public College

Description

This study investigates the impact of dispute resolution techniques on employee performance within private sector organizations. It specifically examines five conflict management strategies: Competing, Avoiding, Accommodating, Compromising, and Collaborating. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data were collected through a self-developed questionnaire incorporating the Employee Performance Questionnaire alongside a Conflict Management Strategies inventory. The research aimed to determine how these dispute resolution approaches influence workers’ productivity and overall performance.

Findings reveal that effective conflict management strategies significantly affect employee performance, highlighting the importance of addressing workplace disagreements proactively rather than ignoring them. The study emphasizes that unresolved conflicts can undermine productivity, morale, and organizational cohesion, whereas skillful resolution fosters a positive work environment conducive to enhanced performance.

Based on these results, the study recommends comprehensive behavioral training for employees at all organizational levels to equip them with the necessary skills to manage conflicts constructively. Such training should focus on recognizing conflict sources, selecting appropriate resolution techniques, and fostering collaborative communication. Additionally, supervisors and managers should receive continuous professional development to strengthen their capacity to mediate disputes effectively and support team dynamics.

The research underscores that conflict is an inevitable aspect of organizational life; thus, cultivating a culture that values open dialogue and constructive conflict resolution is essential for sustaining high employee productivity. By integrating targeted conflict management training into organizational development programs, private sector organizations can improve workforce performance, reduce turnover, and enhance overall operational effectiveness.

In conclusion, this study affirms that dispute resolution techniques are critical determinants of employee performance. Organizations that invest in developing conflict management competencies among their workforce are better positioned to achieve sustainable productivity gains and foster a harmonious workplace.
