Distribution Portugal. Mainland: Faro (Hodkinson & Hollis 1981, as Rhachistoneura varicicosta; this study), Leiria (Hodkinson & Hollis 1981, as R. varicicosta); Tavares (1905a) reported an unidentified psyllid from Castelo Branco which might have concerned this species.
Host plants Portugal. Cistaceae: Cistus albidus L., C. calycinus L., C. halimifolius L., C. salviifolius L. (this study). Tavares (1905a) reported an unidentified psyllid from C. ladanifer (as C. ladaniferus) L., which is a likely host. Hodkinson & Hollis (1981) reported material from Portugal from Ericaceae: Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull which they considered to be a probable host. Based on the presence of immatures and adults, Rapisarda (1987) showed that this is not the case, and that Cistus spp. are hosts of this species.
Cistus albidus, C. calycinus and C. halimifolius are reported here the first time as hosts of L. varicicosta.
