Description
This report provides an overview of the current status of data standards interoperability within the DiSSCo (Distributed System of Scientific Collections) infrastructure and identifies critical gaps and development priorities as DiSSCo progresses from the Transition phase to the Construction phase. It evaluates the advancement and provides updates on the implementation status of fundamental standards such as Latimer Core, MIDS (Minimum Information about a Digital Specimen), and openDS (Open Digital Specimen), while examining their contributions to collection-level descriptions, digitisation tracking, and machine-actionable specimen data. The research additionally addresses the obstacles to standards adoption, encompassing institutional constraints, deficiencies in tools, and dependence on a limited expert group for development initiatives.
DiSSCo Transition Project is funded by the European Union, under grant number 101130121.
