Abstract

News from Nowhere was written in the 19th century, the era known for industrialization, which in literature is referred to as the Victorian period. Industrialization is a broad term that encompasses the transformation of society, work culture, and the mindset of the people. Many works of Victorian literature focused on the misery of people and society during this time.

However, News from Nowhere breaks the monotony of typical Victorian literature by presenting a vision of a futuristic society. This society is set in a utopian world, abundant with nature, where there is no worry about employment or earning a living. It combines the environment of the 16th century with a socialist mindset to create this utopian narrative. Equality and prosperity are the core ideologies of this society, which is only made possible by its adoption of socialist philosophy.

William Morris was an artist, writer, and painter, and his artistic talents are reflected in his narrative technique, which is skillfully crafted in this work of fiction.
