Bifrost: A Handwritten Text Recognition Model for Old Norse

This kraken model, released as a proof of concept, is intended to promote open access, FAIR-compliant research in Old Norse studies. It is a fine-tuned HTR model for Old Norse manuscripts, based on the CATMuS Medieval model (Pinche, A., Clérice, et al. (2025). CATMuS Medieval. Zenodo. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15030337). It was based and tested on a very small curated dataset prepared for the DH2025 paper "Crossing the Bifrost" (data release by Kapitan & Vidal-Gorène 2025, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15366896).
