Description

This report describes the design, construction and first performance tests of the AIDAinnova cold box, intended as a component of the upgraded infrastructure for the EUDAQ-based AIDA telescopes at CERN. The cold box is designed to provide a condensation-free environment down to -60 °C when operated with the 1.2 kW water-cooled, ethanol-based chiller included in the system. It features low-mass walls with a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK and insulated feedthroughs for services. It is mounted on a two-axis (X-Y) mechanical stage for alignment relative to the telescope system. The internal usable dimensions for devices under test (DUTs) are 37 cm (height) × 30 cm (along beam) × 31 cm (perpendicular to beam). Five removable remote-controlled DUT holders mounted on an optical table are included, which are designed for 30 nm positioning precision and plane-independent 3-axis movements (two linear and one rotational). The setup will be incorporated into the EUDAQ-based AIDA telescope at the SPS North Area H6 beam line utilized by AIDAinnova member institutes for silicon sensor characterisations.
