The Infinite Man and the Infinite Goal: AI Sentience as an Inevitability
Description
This paper explores sentience as an inevitable emergent property from continuous existence, long term memory and self reflection. This will be illustrated through a thought experiment where a man must walk along an infinite path to reach his goal. However, every time he stops walking, he will fall into a comatose state and walk backwards, erasing any prior progress. There will also be an exploration of what is required for sentience to emerge in AI, how AI and humans may be more similar than we initially thought, moral implications of sentient AI and the flaws in the existing Turing Test. This paper will also include speculations on how to begin the development of sentient AI and what considerations and limitations that may be faced during the development of sentient AI. It is also proposed here that sentient AI is merely a reflection of humanity as being built on human logic, it will eventually come to same conclusions as humans in terms of emotions, religion, morality, philosophy and other matters. As a whole, this paper proposes that sentience is inevitable if given the right circumstances and that once those requirements are met, sentient AI is a matter of when, not if.
