Description
WP11 reviews new developments on energy-efficient and sustainable accelerator concepts, fostering related technologies and strategies for operation through networking and collaborations. Technologies with potential for improving energy efficiency include efficient RF power sources, power converters and power quality compensators, accelerator magnets based on permanent magnet material, superconducting cables and magnets. Another focus was set on overarching ecological concepts, which is a rapidly evolving issue in the global RI field and need further development. It will help identify the most promising directions of R&D and to formulate best practices for the construction of new facilities, thus supporting all other part of this WP11.
WP11 also includes the design and prototype construction in industry of an efficient klystron RF power source as a replacement for LHC, and the development of Permanent Magnet (PM) combined magnets that could dramatically decrease power consumption of future storage-ring based synchrotron light sources.
