Pattern Discovery Exercises: Fill-in-the-Blank Sequence Tasks

  • 1. ROR icon City University of New York

Description

This document presents a set of sequences with missing elements, each governed by a unique underlying rule. The task involves identifying the rule that dictates the arrangement of elements within each sequence and determining the missing items indicated by question marks ("?"). The sequences vary widely in character, including numerical progressions (such as arithmetic and geometric sequences, squares, and factorials), alphabetical series, symbolic arrangements (days of the week, Greek letters, planetary symbols), and numeric sequences referencing known mathematical constructs (e.g., prime numbers, Fibonacci series, angles). Completing these sequences requires interdisciplinary analytical skills, encompassing mathematical reasoning, linguistic patterns, general knowledge of sequences in nature, and familiarity with symbolic notations from various scientific fields. This exercise aims to develop critical thinking and pattern-recognition skills across multiple domains.

This educational resource presents a collection of pattern-recognition problems where the task is to determine the rule that governs each row and restore the missing element marked with a question mark ("?"). The exercises span multiple domains, including numeric sequences, alphabetic and symbolic patterns from chemistry, astronomy, calendars, and the Greek alphabet. The resource aims to develop abstract thinking and pattern-recognition skills across disciplines.
