Course Description:
This course consists of a series of meditations on Tripurasundarī, the Beautiful Goddess of the Three Cities. She is associated with Dakṣiṇāmnāya and the Śrīvidyā stream of Kaula Tantrism within the Sarvāmnāya Krama system and also constitutes one of the most widespread and popular forms of goddess worship in Hinduism. In a previous course on Tripurārahasya, Ācārya Sthaneshwar Timalsina examined the breadth of the philosophy informing this tradition through a careful study of selected verses. Despite the presence and availability of an extensive commentarial tradition in Śrīvidyā, including the works of such erudite philosophers as Jayaratha, Śivānanda, Vidyānanda, and Amṛtānanda, textual study alone does not adequately demonstrate the degree to which these sages were deeply involved in tantric practices or the manner in which these practices enriched their worldview and informed their philosophy. This course is intended to highlight this juncture by bringing the Śākta Philosophy of Tripurasundarī into practice, to demonstrate how all of the external rituals can be brought to visualization, and how the internal or mānasa ritual ultimately explains the connection between ritual and philosophy.
The course will consist of 11 sessions focusing on three central aspects of the practice of Tripurasundarī including Kāmakalā visualization, meditation on Śrī Yantra according to Bhāvanopaniṣad, and Mānasapūjā or the ritual practices of internal worship. This series is comprehensive and collects from all of the aspects of commentarial literature to give a complete course of meditations from the tradition of Tripurasundarī.
All sessions will be held via Zoom on Sundays at 8:00 AM PDT beginning on October 8, 2023.
