When Lobsters Feast on Each Other: Understanding Cannibalism in Crustacean Aquaculture
Authors/Creators
Description
Cannibalism—the act of consuming individuals of the same species—is a widespread phenomenon across the animal kingdom, from spiders to sharks. In crustacean aquaculture, however, this behavior poses a significant challenge, particularly in the farming of high-value species such as the tropical spiny lobster (Panulirus ornatus), which contributes heavily to juvenile mortality.
