Total Quality Management and Corporate Sustainability: A Literature Review

Literature review on TQM and corporate sustainability, many academics and practitioners examine the relationship between TQM and corporate sustainability. Many studies show that the implementation of TQM has a positive and significant impact on corporate sustainability performance. TQM helps companies improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase customer satisfaction, all of which contribute to sustainability. Corporate sustainability based on the triple bottom line theory includes three main dimensions, namely economic sustainability reflects healthy financial performance, social sustainability reflects responsibility towards employees, communities, and stakeholders, and environmental sustainability reduces negative impacts on the environment. TQM can help companies achieve sustainability in all of these dimensions by focusing on continuous improvement, employee engagement, and social responsibility. Innovation capability can be a mediator of the relationship between TQM and corporate sustainability. TQM encourages innovation, which in turn can improve sustainability performance. The application of TQM for sustainability focuses on the process, this TQM emphasizes the importance of continuous process improvement. By improving process efficiency, companies can reduce negative environmental impacts and improve economic performance. Employee engagement is critical to the success of TQM implementation and corporate sustainability. Engaged employees are more likely to identify and implement innovative solutions to sustainability problems. Social responsibility in this case TQM encourages companies to be socially responsible. This includes paying attention to the environmental impact of the company's operations and contributing to the communities in which the company operates.
