Description

Replication package for the research article "Exotic mechanical properties enabled by countersnapping instabilities" (DOI: 10.1073/pnas.2423301122). The ZIP archive contains folders (for storing data) and Python scripts (for processing or generating data).

  • Each folder contains the experimental data needed to make a certain figure in the manuscript and supplementary information document. Those folders contain images, videos (without audio), force-extension measurement data, tracking data, additional info stored in txt files and simulation results.
  • Python scripts in the format 'figureX.py' generate the plots needed for 'figure X' by fetching data in the 'FIGURE X' folder. By running those 'figure' Python scripts, data will be processed and plots used in each figure will be generated.
  • Python scripts that do not start with 'figure' (besides 'utils.py') are responsible for running simulations and generating simulation results to store in the data folders. Simulation results have already been generated once and are already stored in the data folders. Yet results can be re-generated by running those Python scripts again.

To ensure reproducibility, each Python script must be run in virtual environment with Python >= 3.13.2 and with the required packages pinned at the specific version as detailed in the 'requirements.txt' file.
