Description

This deliverable summarises the activities undertaken by the FAIR-IMPACT Task 4.4 - FAIR Mappings working towards the establishment of guidelines and methodology to create, document and share mappings and crosswalks between semantic artefacts. The objectives of this task were to establish a framework enabling the creation of FAIR mappings that includes a set of technical recommendations (guidelines) and a practical mapping framework supporting the mapping process (methodology). To create this framework, the task has been actively engaging with a wide range of communities in various contexts (for example, workshops organised by the task, participation in international workshops, RDA plenary meetings). Through these engagement activities, the task has collected responses through an open survey to understand the common practices around mappings and collected feedback from experts to create the FAIR Mapping recommendations and the Practical Mapping Framework. In the process of establishing the FAIR recommendations, we identified a key scalability problem that was not foreseen by the FAIR principles and that may require some adaptation of the principles. Finally, the strong engagement of communities in the RDA context led to the creation of the FAIR Mapping Working Group which represents a sustainability path for the project outputs.  This work has been done in close collaboration with the FAIRCORE4EOSC project and in particular the team developing the Metadata Schema and Crosswalk Registry.
