Valmiera Library Citizen Science Case Study

This case study explores how Latvia's Valmiera Library has developed citizen science activities at their public library. It focuses on one of their activities, a collection of local place names in the Valmiera region. This local history initiative was implemented in the context of the Valmiera library's participation in the EU-funded European Citizen Science (ECS) project. 

This case study informs the reader about the library's mission, gives an executive summary of the library's involvement in citizen science and, how its citizen science project connects to the library's goals. The case study then details how the local place names initiative was implemented, the partnerships and collaboration that were formed, how the community was engaged, the resources used, its promotion, impacts, challenges and solutions and lessons learned. 

This case study will be used as training material as part of the 'Citizen Science at Your Library' course, carried out by SciStarter and the ECS Academy.

This case study is a source of inspiration and know how on what type of citizen science activty can emerge wtihin a public library.
