Summary of the GATE Community Engagement Feedback Report

Overview

The GATE initiative launched its community engagement efforts in 2025, following a new organizational structure. The first engagement session took place on March 18, 2025, in Brussels, with 30 participants attending in a hybrid format. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration in Open Science (OS) and contribute to the European Research Area.

A new website and LinkedIn page were launched on March 17, 2025, after discussions with the European Commission’s Open Science Team. The meeting focused on fostering capacity-building over the coming years.

Key Stakeholder Groups & Their Interests

  1. Trainers (e.g., university lecturers, data stewards)

    • Utilize the GATE report and website for accessing and sharing Open Science resources.

    • Develop and version educational materials collaboratively.

  2. Research Community (e.g., researchers, vice presidents)

    • Use the report for professional development and community engagement.

    • Co-create and access Open Science training programs.

  3. Policy Makers

    • Leverage GATE’s evidence-based resources to support policymaking.

    • Use the report for informed decision-making in research policies.

  4. Research Funding Organizations (RFOs)

    • Employ the report as a reference guide for OS standards in funding applications.

    • Facilitate compliance and improve funding strategies for research projects.

  5. Data Infrastructures (e.g., professionals managing research data)

    • Align GATE resources with EOSC nodes and EU Data Spaces.

    • Enhance metadata integration and visibility of research outputs.

Conclusion

The GATE initiative is developing a collaborative ecosystem where professionals from different sectors can connect, build capacity, and advance Open Science knowledge.
