Description

This repository contains the data products of the publication:
Häberle et al. (2025): "oMEGACat. VI. Analysis of the overall kinematics of Omega Centauri in 3D: velocity dispersion, kinematic distance, anisotropy, and energy equipartition"

A detailed description of the data products and their creation is given in the accompanying paper.
Please cite the paper when using this work.

The data products include:

  • An IPython notebook containing examples of how to load and plot the data products
  • Proper motion dispersion profiles (combined, radial, tangential) using different binning schemes
  • Line-of-sight velocity profiles (rotation, dispersion, position angle)
  • Kinematic maps
  • Proper motion dispersion profiles split into 9 mass bins which can be used to reproduce the energy equipartition analysis
  • A set of photometric, astrometric and spectroscopic quality selections that can be applied to the oMEGACat catalogs to obtain the high-quality sample that we have used for the kinematic analysis.

All data files are provided as .fits tables and as machine-readable (mrt) ASCII files.

The kinematic information published here was obtained using the catalogs created by the oMEGACat collaboration (see Nitschai et al. 2023; Häberle et al. 2024).
