Description
Purpose: The field of preventive psychological intervention has made significant strides, but a need persists for comprehensive frameworks that provide strategic direction for large-scale implementation. Existing programs face scalability limitations, restricting their capacity to reach larger audiences and achieve a widespread impact.
Design/methodology/approach: This paper reviews the Fount Prevention Framework, which provides strategies for enhancing scalability, expanding audience reach, and improving mental health outcomes in prevention and promotion programs. The Mind Wellbeing program is examined as a practical application of the framework's principles. Key features, such as the use of self-help, group-based formats and physical workbooks as potential solutions for accessibility and cost-effectiveness, are highlighted. The program's independence from experts, trained facilitators, and technology-based delivery modes is also examined, along with its transdiagnostic, universal, and group-based approach to fostering scalable mental health promotion and engagement.
Findings: The Fount Prevention Framework’s principles highlight the potential for scalable preventive and mental health promotion programs with increased impact and widespread reach. Limitations and challenges are also discussed to highlight considerations for future adaptation and broader application.
Originality: This paper contributes a novel perspective by proposing a framework that promotes scalability in preventive and mental health promotion programs, addressing a critical gap in existing frameworks and strategies.
Practical implications: The framework offers practical solutions for designing scalable, accessible mental health prevention initiatives, potentially benefiting policymakers, educators, and mental health practitioners.
Social implications: By promoting mental health education through scalable self-help initiatives, the framework may contribute to reducing the global burden of mental illness and fostering community resilience.
