Preliminary Design of a Federated Network for Methodologies in Ocean Observing (MS17)

This Milestone provides a list of requirements, a framework, a conceptual design and a roadmap for the implementation of the Ocean Practices Federated Network (OPFN).  Key items in each element are given. The OPFN will be a crucial response to the need for global access and adoption of standardized methodologies for understanding, forecasting and managing oceans with a focus on climate processes and impacts. Both the cultural and technical aspects are identified to facilitate broader acceptance of best practice creation and use.  The implementation should be straightforward with the early steps of community engagement and working with potential partners being the highest near-term priority.
