The Poetic Vision of the Indigenous Peoples of the Northeastern Region of Puebla

(EN) The poetic worldview of the Totonac people from the Northeastern Sierra of Puebla represents a cultural treasure that has been orally transmitted for generations. This tradition preserves aesthetic and literary expressions while embodying a symbolic system that reflects the history, identity, and intersubjective connections of these communities. However, globalization, linguistic homogenization, and the lack of written records have placed this heritage at risk. To address this, the present article aims to analyze three Totonac poetic expressions to understand the depth and richness of their language, both symbolic and hermeneutic. This essay compiles compositions from three young poets, transcribing and translating them while maintaining their cultural and linguistic integrity. This work contributes to the analysis and preservation of indigenous languages, fosters intercultural appreciation, and highlights poetry as a means of resistance and identity  reaffirmation  within Totonac communities. It aligns with broader efforts undertaken at the Northeastern Regional Complex of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla to safeguard Mexico’s intangible cultural heritage by continuously recognizing the poetic traditions of this region.

(SP) La cosmovisión poética del pueblo totonaca de la Sierra Nororiental de Puebla representa un tesoro cultural que se ha transmitido oralmente por generaciones. Esta tradición preserva expresiones estéticas y literarias al tiempo que encarna un sistema simbólico que refleja la historia, la identidad y las conexiones intersubjetivas de estas comunidades. Sin embargo, la globalización, la homogeneización lingüística y la falta de registros escritos han puesto en riesgo este patrimonio. Para abordar esto, el presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar tres expresiones poéticas totonacas para comprender la profundidad y riqueza de su lenguaje, tanto simbólica como hermenéutica. Este ensayo recopila composiciones de tres poetas jóvenes, las transcribe y traduce manteniendo su integridad cultural y lingüística. Este trabajo contribuye al análisis y la preservación de las lenguas indígenas, fomenta la apreciación intercultural y destaca la poesía como un medio de resistencia y reafirmación de la identidad dentro de las comunidades totonacas. Se alinea con los esfuerzos más amplios que se llevan a cabo en el Complejo Regional Nororiental de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla para salvaguardar el patrimonio cultural inmaterial de México mediante el reconocimiento continuo de las tradiciones poéticas de esta región.
