The article is devoted to the problem of criminal and financial crimes as a product of social reality in the “Vaal” by F.M. Dostoyevsky (“Winter notes about summer impressions”) and in the drama “Vaal” by A.F. Pisemsky. The aim of the article is to show the social reality in F.M. Dostoevsky’s “Vaal” (“Winter notes about summer impressions”) and in A.F. Pisemsky’s drama “Vaal”. The work emphasizes that Dostoevsky and Pisemsky generalized artistically, typified their characters and events of the era. Both writers are concerned about human ideals’ fall, both worry about the person’s “depravity” who is influenced with passions, the writers strive for the objective interpretation of person’s inner essence, the people, the nation. Pisemsky’s crime description gives the possibility to compare him with Dostoevsky. As a research result we can underline that both writers considered various crimes in the context of social reality, analyzing a crime as a product of passions and obsessions. The problem of accumulation and money-grubbing, the “environment” considering in F.M. Dostoevsky’s “Vaal” and in A.F. Pisemsky’s “Vaal”, in the context of the place and time, is conditioned by person’s actions. As a conclusion we can say that F.M. Dostoevsky’s “Vaal” in “Winter notes about summer impressions” and in A.F. Pisemsky’s “Vaal” are tragic works connected the past of out culture. Their philosophical and emotional leitmotifs of both writers are shown in a peculiar retrospective reflecting warning to subsequent generations of committing the tragic mistakes of the past and the present, as well as the sense of fear before them, and everything is in organic unity. To understand the phenomenon of two works, it is necessary to mind that their pessimistic tonality corresponds to the emotional and psychological worldview of a person in the second half of the XIX century.
