Description
This resource sheet was created for Episode 3 of a six-part meetup series focusing on Enabling Open Science through Research Code. The series kicked off on International Research Software Engineering Day.
Episode 3 focussed on Opening Up Research Code.
The recording is available at https://youtu.be/cDq9UMSOkhs.
Questions that were addressed in the session include:
- What does it mean to make research code open, and what do you think are the benefits?
- How has using open-source tools helped you in your research?
- What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced in sharing code openly, and how did you overcome them?
- What practices do you follow to cite other's code? How can others cite your code?
- How do you balance the need for open access with concerns about intellectual property and data privacy?
- How would you identify if an open-source code is reusable? - What advice do you have for audience members who want to learn about skills and tools to help them open up their research code? Which communities can they join? What open learning resources can they refer to?
