Description

The MASER project proposes a tool-box for open science in low frequency radio astronomy (mostly: solar radio bursts and magnetospheric planetary radio emissions). This includes a data repository for publishing digital objects (dataset, catalogues, documents...), with a DOI for citation, and a set of interoperable interfaces to discover and access the data. MASER has been supported by several EU-funded projects, such as Europlanet (which helped to implement virtual observatory interfaces on MASER’s datasets) or FAIR-IMPACT (which supported MASER for improving the vocabulary management, and the dataset landing pages).

In the frame of the Horizon-Europe OSTRAILS project, MASER is a pilot for the “Plan-Track-Assess” pathways introduced by the OSTRAILS team. A machine-actionable DMP (maDMP) tool is understand study to prepare the digital objects ahead from their publication, and to gather the metadata as they are produced, so that they can be reused easily in the further data life cycle stages: e.g., the publication with Datacite will reuse the maDMP content; or, the virtual observatiory interfaces will be implemented using the maDMP content. The digital objects will also be assessed to evaluate their FAIR-ness, using the OSTRAILS tooling, which will have dedicated metrics for astronomy. Finally, the OTRAILS’ Science Knowledge Graph (SKG) will be used to connect the digital objects to other resources (publications, funders, instruments, people, institutions...). In the frame of the project an evolu,on of the SKG will be improved so that accessing the data through virtual observatory interfaces can be adequately defined.

The MASER project is partly supported by CNES and CNRS, as well as EU fundings, through Europlanet 2024 RI (grant agreement No 871149), FAIR-IMPACT (grant agreement No 101057344), and OSTRAILS (grant agreement No 101130187).
