Description

The article "Peisistratus in Salamis: Who Captured the Island?" wants to answer whether Solon or Peisistratus secured Salamis for Athens in the 6th century BCE. Analyzing ancient and modern sources, it concludes that Peisistratus played the key role, although later accounts credited Solon for political reasons. The study highlights Peisistratus’ military achievements and the historical bias in Athenian narratives, which sought to elevate Solon as a democratic icon over the tyrant Peisistratus.
