Description

Orange Data Mining is an open-source and user-friendly software for data analysis and visualization. It offers an interactive, workflow-based interface that allows users to build data analysis processes by combining pre-developed widgets. These widgets can perform tasks such as data preprocessing, visualization, statistical analysis, and machine learning. Orange is particularly popular due to its ease of use, requiring no programming knowledge. At the same time, it supports both beginner and advanced users in data science. With various add-ons, users can also map geospatial information or easily analyze time series data.

These features make Orange a suitable tool for citizen science, as it makes data analysis accessible and engaging for the general public. It helps them develop skills such as data literacy, problem-solving, and computational thinking. By simplifying complex data analysis, Orange enables citizen scientists to make meaningful contributions to research in areas such as ecology, public health, and environmental monitoring. During this workshop, participants will be introduced to Orange, explore its capabilities for data analysis and visualization, including mapping, and gain hands-on experience to demonstrate applications for citizen science activities.
