Description
Curvature analysis of complete seed silhouettes involved seed images of 100 ppp and resolved maximum, minimum and average curvatures for each seed. For this, a series of points delimiting the profile of the seeds was automatically taken with the function Analyze Line Graph of Image J. The corresponding Bézier curve and curvature measurements were obtained according to published protocols. The curvature is given in mm-1; thus, a curvature of 1 corresponds to a circumference of 1 mm, and a curvature of 10 to a circumference of 100 microns (0.1 mm). Maximum and minimum curvature values indicate the major changes in the slope in the curve. In a straight-line curvature equals 0 and in a circumference curvature is constant. Thus, the higher the difference between maximum and minimum curvature values from the average curvature, the higher departure from circularity. A low maximum to average curvature ratio indicates more constant curvature values related with a figure approaching a circumference. Negative values indicate changes in the direction of the slope, and thus non-convex regions.
