Questions to consider in developing Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)
Description
In Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), patients and/or members of the public comment and advise on the research process, for example in health research. This includes, for example, looking at study design, helping frame research questions and advising on how to achieve participant buy-in.
This checklist is to aid researchers in planning PPIE work. It is designed to help researchers prepare for any sensitive issues that might arise when involving the patients and public in research, for example if discussion of a condition may trigger painful emotions. The checklist also helps you consider how to design your PPIE activities in a way that considers accessibility needs, as well as safeguarding and data protection frameworks.
Please note: this checklist is specifically for PPIE work. It does not constitute ethics approval and should not be used when patients and the public are participants in research studies.
