Wallace, A. R. 1858-1866. [WCP4767: Field Notebook 5].

Description

Notebook written from both ends, with text running in opposite directions inward from each cover, inverted with respect to each other. In this transcript, the pages of the back section have been arranged in reverse order and placed after the pages of the front section. The notebook contains numbered lists of bird and insect species that ARW and his assistants collected on several islands, from Bacan in October 1858, to Sumatra in January 1862 (the final collecting locality of his expedition). The front section has the bird lists and the back section the insect lists. About half of the back section is occupied by financial accounts, written both in the Malay Archipelago and after his return to England on 31 March 1862.
