Description

Neo-liberal shift in policies led to introduction of private parties as service providers in one of the most crucial infrastructure electricity. Government slowly rolled out from its primary role of service provider to mere facilitator. This roll out created huge debate around privatization in essential services like electricity. All debates finally seems to merge into single most important issue of “tariff”, that is who shall pay and how much. Private entities seek attractive tariffs whereas public demands af ordable tarif . This study elaborates on this phenomena from socio-econo-political prespective, focusing on how the poor and most vulnerable influence tariff determination process. And, it also looks at how these tariffs have impacted them and changed their behaviour. Finally, it contains policy recommendation for future tarif determination.
