Description

Abstract (English)

This study addresses the perceptions of Muslim Turks living in Austria regarding the increase in Islamophobic incidents following the events of October 7, 2023, their perceived Islamophobia levels, and their perceptions regarding the increase in the types of Islamophobic incidents. The study aimed to describe the perceived Islamophobia levels of Muslim Turks living in Austria. The data were collected using the survey technique. The prepared online survey form was delivered to the participants found through convenience sampling and snowball sampling methods. Muslim Turks living in Austria over the age of 18 participated in the study. The data were collected in September-October 2024, and a total of 343 people were included in the study. 71% of the participants were male and the average age was 38. The participants' perceived Islamophobia levels were measured in the study, and it was found that this showed a significant correlation with age and socio-economic level, but did not show a significant relationship with gender, education level, and religiosity. It was found that there was a perception among the participants that there was an increase in all of the sample case types except “pointing the finger, pointing”, and it was revealed that two out of every three participants had a perception that there was an increase in anti-Muslim and anti-Islam sentiment in the media and political discourses after October 7.
