Description
This article is a collection, typology and analysis of daily Kabyle greetings during the 24 hours. By virtue of their function, these formulas fall into the broad category of polite formulas corresponding in Tamazight to ‘tinfaliyin leḥdaqa/lekyasa’, which we call ‘tihdurrin n lmeɛna’. These are expressions that Kabyle speakers exchange day and night as soon as they meet or leave someone or a group of people, at different times of the day and night, in different meeting contexts. In general, greetings are polylexical, prefabricated, more or less fixed or frozen ‘tinfaliyin tukrifin/tusbikin’ and semantically compositional. Their meaning is relative to a specific context of use, which is why they fall into the category of pragmatic phraseologisms.
