MCGPU simulated cone beam computed tomography data using the XCAT phantom

Description

This package contains simulated projection data for CBCT. The simulations were performed with the MCGPU software and two different simulated cases are included. One has 5e9 photons (XCAT) and one has 1e9 (XCATHalf). The simulated phantom is the XCAT (female) human phantom (https://doi.org/10.1118/1.3480985). The projections include also the scatter data and are the original projections obtained from MCGPU with no modifications. The simulated scanner is very closely based on Planmed XFI, but is not exactly the same. Note that MCGPU only allows the definition of the geometries and thus the simulated scanner corresponds to XFI only in the case of the geometry.

Included are also the simulation configuration file that allows to reproduce XCATHalf case (and with very small modifications, XCAT case as well). For that, however, you'll also need the PENELOPE material files (you'll need to find or create these yourself) and get a PENELOPE formatted version of the XCAT phantom. Note that currently MCGPU does not inherently support the phantom that was used for this simulation due to the large size of the phantom. Due to this, the phantom itself is not included here. It is possible to modify MCGPU to support larger phantoms, but this requires manual tuning of the source code. In the future, the XCAT phantom might be included in a new version.

Included is also a mat-file containing a flat measurement.

Note that due to MCGPU, the units in the projection images (and the flat data) is in eV/cm^2.
