CDR to build a wavefront sensor for [8-25] keV

Description

In the frame of the EUCALL WP, Pulse Characterisation and Control (PUCCA) project, the ESRF is designing a wavefront sensor prototype for the hard X-ray energy regime based on the principle of X-ray speckle tracking. Alongside this instrument, we also developed a dedicated and versatile software package for wavefront retrieval and reconstruction from speckle experimental data.
The present report is structured as follows: Chapter 2 presents the working principle behind our instrument, gives details regarding the experimental workflow and detector calibration, and describes our software implementation for wavefront computation, including a study on software optimization possibilities as a contribution of our colleagues from EUCALL WP5, Ultrafast Data Acquisition (UFDAC); Ch. 3 describes the instrument and its main components; Ch. 4 gives an overview of the experimental campaigns through which the instrument was tested at three different large-scale X-ray facilities; finally, Ch. 5 presents our main conclusions and Ch. 6 acknowledges the effort of all those involved in this project.
