Buckling of Thin-Walled Cylinders from Three Dimensional Nonlinear Elasticity
Authors/Creators
Description
The paper deals with the bifurcation analysis of thin-walled compressed cylinders on the basis of Flügge's simplifying assumptions. As the most severe hypothesis introduced by Flügge is an incremental constitutive equation not descending from any nonlinear hyperelastic constitutive law, his formulation was re-derived on the basis of two different nonlinear hyperelastic constitutive equations, referred to compressible materials. Flügge's famous results were confirmed, together with all the limit equations, now rigorously
obtained, also capturing the limit behaviours of surface instability, wrinkling, and Euler rod buckling.
