StandICT.eu 2026: First Annual Impact Event, Post-event Report
Description
The StandICT.eu 2026 impact event, held in conjunction with the 28th EURAS Annual Standardisation Conference, took place in June 2024, at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. The event highlighted the efforts made to boost the European ICT Standardisation Ecosystem through a fellowship programme, the EU Observatory for ICT Standardisation (EUOS), and the publication of several reports and analyses on ICT standardisation gaps. The workshop, hosted within EURAS, brought together leading experts, researchers, and stakeholders across industry and academia, with 20 dedicated participants attending from the wider EURAS conference. The workshop encouraged new actors to explore funding opportunities through StandICT.eu and served as an important platform for fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue. A key insight was the need to further expand efforts to support newcomers to the field of standardisation, ensuring that young professionals and experts across multiple sectors have the opportunity to engage with standardisation work at both national and international levels. The feedback highlighted that the provided information, particularly regarding the Standards Academy and gap analyses, was useful in helping participants understand emerging areas in need of standardisation support. Some attendees suggested ramping up the efforts in training and increase the number of modules available on the platform. The direct involvement of two StandICT.eu fellows highlighted the impact of the fellowship programme on international standardisation efforts, with both Julian Lauten-Weiss and Jurriaan Parie emphasising how their work supports the advancement of critical ICT standards aligned with European policies like the European Green Deal. The event also helped bolster the visibility of these experts, giving them a platform to share their progress with a wider audience and potentially influence future standards discussions. The closing discussions from this impact event provided valuable feedback for improving support mechanisms within the StandICT.eu 2026 programme, with a renewed focus on training initiatives that address geopolitical issues in ICT standards and foster stronger European leadership in global standardisation efforts.
