Responsabilidade empresarial em violações de direitos humanos nas ditaduras da Argentina e do Brasil

This chapter aims to analyse the trajectories of academic and scientific research
into the serious human rights violations perpetrated by companies during the last
Argentine dictatorship (1976-1983) and the Brazilian dictatorship (1964-1985/8), in
connection with the processes of memory, truth and justice. To this end, it seeks to
problematise under-studied dimensions of the issue based on a combined analysis
of economic, labour and social transformations, taking into account both corporate
actors and the trade-unions, workers and social groups victimised by corporate
links to state terrorism. It emphasises that the participation of companies and
economic groups in the Argentinian and Brazilian dictatorships was not only related
to obtaining economic benefits. Responsibility for the repressive dimension must
also be taken into account, understanding that various companies and
businesspeople were an integral part of the repressive processes and serious
violations that took place during that period in both countries.
