AI Snippets for Language Learning and Teaching: Practical Ideas for Language Educators
Description
This workshop overviews how AI can enhance key language and academic skills, with a focus on promoting self-regulated learning. It covers five key areas: (1) oral comprehension and production, where AI tools offering speech recognition and pronunciation feedback improve listening and speaking skills through real-time correction and interactive exercises; (2) oral and written interaction, where conversational agents and chatbots simulate real-world communication, providing contextual feedback to develop interactive language abilities; (3) written comprehension and production, where automated writing assistants and text analysis tools refine grammar, vocabulary, and cohesion in writing; (4) language teaching materials design, where AI tools assist in creating instructional materials; and (5) academic research, where AI tools support research processes such as literature reviews and data organization. Additionally, the workshop will address the ethical considerations involved in using AI for language learning, including issues of data privacy and algorithmic bias. This session equips students with the necessary skills to integrate AI into their language learning, research, and educational practices effectively.
