Filling the gaps: Facilitating access to enriched research data

Description

The document discusses the challenges faced in managing and enriching research data in the Digital Humanities (DH). It highlights the role of research data repositories and platforms such as Gams, Zenodo, and Europeana in improving data visibility and accessibility. However, many data producers struggle with transforming their data into formats compatible with these infrastructures due to limited resources.

The document proposes a transformation service designed to assist data producers by describing data models, executing transformations, separating technological and domain aspects of data modeling. This service helps users enrich, cleanse, and process fragmented datasets into unified virtual datasets. It also supports the creation of virtual APIs to standardize and harmonize data access across various platforms.

Examples of successful implementations are provided, including a CLARIAH-DE project that made teaching materials accessible and the development of virtual datasets for research publications and geographical authority data. The service is undergoing further testing within the NFDI Text+ infrastructure and has received positive feedback from the academic community.
