Description

FIGURE 1. TLC plates in solvents B′ and C showing the identified lichen compounds. 1 = Arthonia lopingensis (Asahina 106, TNS); 2 = Coniocarpon cinnabarinum (Frisch 13/Jp127, TNS); 3 = Arthonia picea (Kashiwadani 14142, TNS); 4 = Arthonia sanguinaria (Ohmura 6609, TNS). The control lines (C) contain atranorin (atran) and norstictic acid (nor). The samples contain confluentic acid (confl), norstictic acid (nor, from the host lichen), parietin (par), psoromic acid (psor), and the pigments A1 (reddish, rf 4, 5), A2 (purple; rf 21, 32), A3 (yellow; rf 35, 54), A4 (reddish; rf 36, 32), A5 (reddish; rf 40, 45), A6 (yellow; rf 44, 50) and A7 (dark purple; rf 4, 5). Rf values are given as B′ first, C second. All colours given refer to the spots on the TLC plates prior to sulphuric acid treatment and charring.
