Description

Aspicilia adamanticola Hue (1910: 39)

Type (lectotype, designated here):— KOREA. Nai-Hpyeng, July 1906, R. P. Faurie 221 (LE L-7526!, isolectotype BM 001107771 [digital photograph!]).

The species was described from the northern part of the Korean peninsula. In his description Hue mentioned similarity of Aspicilia adamanticola to A. cinerea. According to his view the former is characterized by a whitish, not truly areolate thallus and absence of the lateral cortex. The studied specimen contains norstictic acid and has spores and conidia which agree well with Aspicilia cinerea. The size of spores is (17.0) 17.7–[18.1]–18.4 (20.0) × (10.5) 11.3–[11.6]–11.9 (13.0) μm (n=10) and conidia are (16.0) 17.6–[18.1]–18.5 (21.0) μm (n=10). These data as well as overall morphology (Fig. 1A), thickness of hymenium (100 μm) and moniliform paraphyses makes us conclude that Aspicilia adamanticola is conspecific with A. cinerea.
