21. Miconia crassinervia Cogniaux (1887: 391). (Figure 2 L; 3 T.)

Shrubs ca. 2.3 m tall. Light gray and vertically scaly rhytidome. Branches erect, not winged, gray; branches, petioles, leaves abaxial surface, inflorescences, bracts, bracteoles, hypanthium, fruits with dendritic persistent trichomes. Leaves opposite, isophyllous; petioles striate 1.5–2.8 cm long; leaf blades 14.5–26.6 × 7.3–9.5 cm, chartaceous, discolored, symmetrical, elliptical or lanceolate, base subcordate, apex acuminate, margins denticulate, not ciliate, adaxial side glabrous, leaf veins 5, suprabasal; ant domatia absent. Paniculate 6.8–9.3 × 7.3–8.6 cm, terminal; bracts ca. 1.5 mm long, oval, caducous; bracteoles ca. 1.6 mm long. Flowers 5-merous, sessile; hypanthium 1.6 mm, campanulate, striate; calyx simple, persistent, lacinia triangular; petals ca. 2.2 × 1.5 mm, white, oblong, symmetrical, apex rounded, base truncate, margins not ciliate, glabrous; stamens 10, heteromorphic, smaller anthers ca. 2.4 mm, larger anthers 2.8 mm long, white, oblong, straight, apex attenuate,1 subapical pore, connective not prolonged, smaller filaments ca. 1.8 mm, larger filaments ca. 2.6 mm long, glabrous; ovary 1.3 × 1.1 mm, half-inferior, placentation axillary, 3-locular, glabrous; style ca. 3.8 mm long, straight, glabrous. Berry ca. 4.2 × 4.4 mm, unripe fruit green, ripe fruit blackish; fruits with up to 8 seeds, triangular.

Specimens examined:— BRAZIL. Amazonas, Manaus, RDS-Tupé, 28 August 2013, fl., fr., A. L. Corrêa 248 (EAFM!, HUAM!, INPA!); 21 April 2013, fr., A. L. Corrêa 279 (EAFM!, HUAM!, INPA!).

Distribution and habitat:— Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Bolivia (Goldenberg et al. 2013). In Brazil it occurs in Amazonian forests (Goldenberg & Caddah 2015). In the reserve, it occurs in “terra firme” slopes on clay soils, with a lot of organic matter.

Comments:— This species is not frequent in the reserve. It can be distinguished by the light gray and vertically scaly rhytidome, leaves with subcordate bases and persistent arachnoid trichomes on abaxial surface.
