AERIAL PREDATION OF A BAT BY AN AMERICAN CROW

Description

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) We report predation by an American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) of a bat in flight. We observed an aerial attack of a little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) by a crow, followed by consumption of the prey item. American Crows are reported to have a wide variety of foraging strategies and food items; consumption of bats, in general, has not been reported among them. Received 14 April 2006. Accepted 9 October 2006.
