A new species of Murina bats was discovered in Guizhou Province, China

Description

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Four unknown specimens of Murina bat (one male and three female) were captured in an abandoned mine cave during the investigation on Chiroptera species diversity at the Rongjiang county on August, 2016. These specimens were described from morphologically, morphometrically, and genetically, and it differs from previously described species of Murina. Analysis of two gene markers of CO1 gene and Cytb gene supports valid species status based on divergent phylogenetic lineages. This species has a higher similarity with Murina shuipuensis and Murina fanjingshanensis in morphology, however, there are obvious difference in skull morphlogy and phylogenetic relationship among these three species. It is a new species of Murina, and named Murina rongjiangensis sp.nov.
