Integrating Design Thinking into Economics: Recent Progress and Future Outlook

Abstract: This study provides a quantitative analysis of Design thinking literature in the domain of economics, where wicked socio-economic problems need creative direction, and the domain has witnessed a significant increase in scientific production. The study aims to analyse past research trends, and current developments and identify future research directions in economics. Using bibliometric analysis with R studio and Vosviewer software, the study analyses 498 documents from the Scopus database to identify past research trends and the field's intellectual structure. Key findings reveal emerging themes such as machine design, sustainable development, innovation, and product design that have captured researchers' attention. This research provides fresh insights into the application of design thinking in economics. It is the first article to offer a comprehensive literature review on this topic, highlighting its originality and contribution to economics.
