Description

The MedECC Special Report Interlinking climate change with the Water-Energy Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus in the Mediterranean Basin provides a comprehensive scientific assessment of the region’s interconnected challenges related to water scarcity, food and energy insecurity, and ecosystem degradation, all of which are intensified by climate change. Building on the First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) by MedECC, this report deepens the understanding of the interlinkages and trade-offs within the WEFE nexus.

Chapter 5 reviews governance, policies and research options for the WEFE nexus implementation in the Mediterranean Basin.

The report has been written by 60 authors from 15 countries, all contributing in individual capacity and without financial compensation. The UNEP/MAP – Barcelona Convention Secretariat, through its Plan Bleu Regional Activity Center, and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean work in partnership to support MedECC, and to contribute to establish a sound and transparent scientific assessment process.
